A "COME AS YOU ARE," CHRIST-CENTERED, COMMUNITY CHURCH

Our Creed, Our Seed

Ephesians 2:8-10

For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith —and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God— not by works, so that no one can boast.  For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.

BELIEVERS SAVED BY GOD'S GRACE TO SHARE HIS GRACE

Mission

Living Hope through Grace

Our mission is to be a unified body of believers committed to Christ and our community. Like the grace of God, we desire to be open to all of humanity, serving with love and dignity. A house of prayer, a place of worship, and a agent of positive change in our community.

Because of grace, we now have a living hope that is with us as we walk through this sin sick world. For those of us that have received the covenant of grace, we gladly strive to share that revelation with others.

History

We began as Grace Community Fellowship, a handful of believers that had a heart to be salt and light in Portland – one of the hardest area in Louisville, KY.  The need for food in our community was alarming, so we started a bi-monthly gathering to bring relief, and share the gospel through an outreach called A Meal & Message.

For a year, 15 faithful believers, in partnership with One Evangelical Covenant Church, Kentucky Harvest, and Neighborhood House, pieced together resources to serve over 150 families at each gathering. We loved, prayed, cried, and shared life with our brothers and sisters. During that time we watched the love of God draw people into a relationship with Him. The more we gathered, the more evident it became that there was a greater need for a more consistent ray of hope in Portland. God was calling us to be a church.

The journey from Grace Community Fellowship to Grace Community Covenant Church has been nothing short of an adventure with God.

Grace was blessed to partner with the Louisville Archdiocese to use one of their decommissioned churches in the Portland area, as a place for worship, and in November of 2013, Grace moved in to the former St. Cecilia's Parish.

God gave us a building so we could be the church.

For four years, that facility allowed us to continue our ministry. We gathered for worship, fed the hungry, started a Clothing Closet, hosted medical clinics, discipled new believers, hosted AA groups, and laid to rest the sisters and brothers lost to drugs or gang violence.

March, 2017 God opened the door for Grace to move to 3216 Portland Avenue (the former Kroger Supermarket), in this newer, larger space, our capacity to serve has expanded. We now have the ability to share more with more – all for the good of our sisters and brothers, but most importantly the glory of our God.
